hi. the advertised dvd read speed of this new sony drive (actually a liteon SOHW-812S) is 12x. yes the average rip speed is 6x, with a min of 4 and max of 8 (as found by nero dvd speed). this applies to both dvd videos and data dvds, dvd-rs and dvd+RWs. does anybody know what the actual read speed of this drive is./should be? i have the latest firmware, UYS1. is dvd read speed supposed to be the same as rip speed? any help greatly appreciated!

update... i found that the read speed advertised for drives is the speed it reads the outer most part of SINGLE LAYER PRESSED DVD-ROM discs (most are double layer or your own burnt dvds). anyway, i found a single layer pressed disc and it started at 5x and reached 10x, with an average of 8x... so much faster (10mins to rip 5gigs). but still nowhere near 12, i guess thats normal though? any info would still be appreciated
