I have a USB capture device cable which is supposed to allow me to download VHS tape to the PC via the software that came with the product. I attach the video/audio composite cables to their respective inputs and turn the video to "play" and nothingshowing on the preview. I was wondering if these cables alone are enough because with the TV I need to use a video output cable? Could this be the case for the PC, if so where do I insert the cable? Please let me know. Thanks

hook the composite leads you are worried about to your tv inplace of your pc and then run the vcr to see if you've got good signal to the tv.
if that's good, recheck your s/w and h/w setup for your pc.
also fill out your profile. it's not easy to guess what os or capping h/w you are using.Always check helpfiles/instructions before leaping... -
The software I am using is Pinnacle Studio 7 with a USB composite lead, one is a #scart plug for the VCR and the other is for the USB capture device
Thanks for your message. I must add that what you have suggested I have already tried, I forgot to add that the the VCR lead has two different endings one is a scart plug for the VCR and the other 2 short cables, one red which says video on it and the other white which says audio on it. I know normally the red should be yellow but I have proved that it is video by trying it out with my analog camcorder to the PC and that works ok. My instinct tells me it is missing an OUT video cable as it doesn't work without one even when plugging it into the TV. Any more help would be of great help. This forum has solved many of my problems in the past. Thanks you. -
Thank God for that I finally managed it. I just had to go out and buy a scart plug which had a switch for output as well as input. The one I had unbeknown to me was input.
Now my 2nd problem is the picture once downloaded and converted either to mpeg or avi with the pinnacle software is awful. It's blurry and slow. The audio is fine. Do u think I should use a different capture software with my USB Capture Device? Mind u I should point out the video was recorded at Long Play.
