Hi. As a total Newbie, please help!
My gear is TMPEGEnc v2.5 and Easy CD Creator 6.
I am having difficulty in getting a downloaded music video (type of file - Video Clip, AVI) to send the Audio source into my TMPEGEnc's releveant Browse slot). The Video goes in but not the Audio.
I read that I may need to 'seperate' them with Audiodub but Windows failed to recognise one of the file extensions related to the second part of the download (.bz2).
I downloaded 'AVIcodec' after hours of surfing the net for help, eventually finding this site (thankyou!) and notice the V. codec name is OpenDivX v4 and the Audio is Windows Media Player v2.
I tried to download the DivX4 codecs with no luck, but managed to get DivX5, though I am as yet to have any success - I am assuming the DivX5 codec takes effect automatically, as did the AVIcodec???.
I then downloaded the relevevent Windows MP v2 codecs, ok.
That's about it, if all this sounds a bit 'novice', please excuse the possible mis-use of terms, this is only my third day!
I have (BTW) managed to succesfully burn my first DVD, but in this case both Video and Audio shot into the relevent positions first time, no problem, so everything else is working fine.
Thanks,
Pete (England)

Don't forget to download and install any audio codecs you might need. A lot of DivX files on the net are now encoded with AC3 5.1 surround sound, so check the Tools page on this website for suitable codec downloads such as AC3 ACM Decompressor and AC3 Filter.
If your video download happens to be encoded with AC3 audio, I would recommend downloading and installing a free program called HeadAC3he which can turn AC3 audio files into WAV or MP2 files, which TMPGEnc can handle easily. First you should open the video in the Virtual Dub program and then use the "save as wav" option in the file menu, plus making sure to name the file as "terminator 3.ac3" for example. You then open this file in HeadAC3he and save as a proper WAV file. There is a short guide on the dvdrhelp site on how to do all this.
The only other thing I can think of is that you may be using those KVCD templates with TMPGEnc, which I use all the time and they are great but the sound is set to off by default these days. So remember to either choose the "system video + audio" option on the main screen or alternatively, encode just the video file with no sound and then use the mpeg tools in TMPGEnc to multiplex the video with the audio file you made with HeadAC3he, but remember to encode your audio in Headache direct to an MP2 file instead of a WAV file.

Hi Ego.
Thanks for the help.
My initial problem is that I cannot seem to succesfully download VirtualDub.
I have tried three or four times now but just can't seem to get the program to open, or even appear anywhere. I get a load of folders but no exe icon.
My knowledge is very basic and I appologise if I am missing the point, but the other downloads have all appeared ok.
Thanks agan.

I just downloaded Virtual Dub again from their site to check it was ok etc and the zip file does include a VirtualDub.exe file. To install Vdub you only need to unzip it to a folder anywhere on your hard drive and then launch the grey coloured exe I mentioned.
A year from now you will be kicking yourself at how easy it is to use and understand video capture/encoding. I started this in Feb' 2001 and left it for a year before I decided to learn everything fully. Now in 2004 I can handle almost anything easily.

Hi again Ego.
Oh yes, do I know THAT!!! How often do we look at something for days, then a year later think that!
Ok, I'll try again, I'm obviously doing something wrong.
Ok, done it succesfully this time, I can't think what I did wrong before - I must have three or four half-baked versions on my computer now, lying around somewhere.
I have to go to work now so will let you know how I get on tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Hi again Ego.
I've just tried quickly before I go out anf keep getting the following message when I try to save the WAV file:-
'Error initialising audio stream decompression. The requested conversion is not possible. Check to make sure you have the required codec (Microsoft Audio Codec)'.
I have looked through the site codecs but cannot find this one. I have also looked on the net but can't seem to get a download at the moment - the pages that look promising are not opening properly.
Sorry to give you all this, I thought I'd cracked it!
Gotta fly now, speak maybe tomorrow if you can shed any light on this one.

Don't forget to look up the guides on dvdrhelp.com for Vdub and HeadAC3he on how to extract the AC3 sound from a DivX video file and then make either a WAV or MP2 file from it. I'm sure you will find it very easy and all the stuff I have mentioned is quick and simple.....no honestly it really is!

Hi Ego.
Sorry for the delayed response to this reply, I was unable to get on yesterday due to a bit of excess shreddin' myself!
Back later, will check this out in an hour or so and let you know how I get on.
Pete
ps.. re. the name 'Shredder', and the pick logo... Ibanez, Charvel. Jackson, Kramer???????

Ok Ego, here's the latest!
I managed to save the Audio as a WAV file, no problem.
I then loaded the Video as normal into the Video slot (TMPGEnc Browse), followed by the new WAV file into the Audio slot below. (I had saved this, BTW, into my 'Incoming' folder on my desktop)
This all went ok and I clicked on Burn.
This went ok right up until the end (as far as I know, all the Encoding all went to plan), but then up popped the Error message:
'Error 80070057 - The Parameter Is Incorrect'.
As I seem to have completed most of the applications succesfully up to this point, is there any way I can pick up from there without going through the whole procedure again - it takes hours.
I saved the job-so-far into the Template box (I don't know whether that was correct or not but I did anyway, just in case I could re-start the procedure from this point if it failed - which of course, it did!
The disc BTW seems to be totally blank.
Nearly there....?

I assume you produced the .wav by putting the saved .ac3 file from Virtual Dub, into the HeadAC3he program and then converting the .ac3 into a .wav file. Also if you happened to locate and follow the ac3 to wav guide on this site, you will have set HeadAC3he to make a 44.1kHz wav file (required for VideoCD on CDR, unless you are making a DVD which is 48kHz).
I'm not sure what the error you got was but I sometimes find that TMPGEnc crashes right at the end of encoding a DivX to MPEG. This is not always a disaster because you can either take a chance and encode it again from the beginning, OR you can save a lot of time by using the TMPGEnc MPEG Tools. De-multiplex your encoded MPEG and then Multiplex it again. Make sure you select Non-compliant VideoCD from the drop down menu box and then wait a few minutes while it puts the mpeg back together again. This will make the video playable and after you have checked the video from the start and at the end for any sync problems, you can burn it to disc.
Yeah my username means I am a guitarist and the plectrum is one that Yngwie Malmsteen threw at me in 1998 I think. It has his signature on the reverse and is quite nice to play. I scanned it onto my PC and then added my online nickname to it with Photoshop. I play both Yamaha and Ibanez electric guitars and my acoustic is a Washburn. I've been playing since 1991 but not as much as I would like to in recent years. The mp3 tracks on my website are quite old now, from 1995 but people seem to like them, especially one I wrote in 1992 called Eclipse which people go nuts over!

Hi again Ego.
Thanks for your continuing help, though I fear I am starting to dispair!
At first glance of your latest advice, it would seem I omitted something blatently obvious already - I saved it as 44.1kHz instead of 48 for a start (I'm doing DVD), I can't believe I did that as I thought I had followed the instuctions to the letter. As for the rest, well perhaps I goofed on that too.
I'm getting really confused now, I thought I had already downloaded HeadAC3he, but on doing a search I cannot find it anywhere. On trying to download it again I get an error telling me it "Cannot access the file 'headac3he-0.23a[1].rar". If this is a RAR file, I know I have this as I downloaded that too, so cannot see whay it won't open.
I got to the very last phase of the burning procedure (I think, anyway), where the top bar was at 100%, just awaiting the bottom bar to start and it failed right there. The disc was completely blank when it popped out. I'm hoping I can find a way into that point via the second part of your help file. The first part of the procedure seemed ok and I saved it somewhere, just got to find it now.
Please don't think you have to keep on with this, of course your help is greatly appreciated but I feel this may take a while - computers and me should really agree to disagree!
If you find it too time consuming, that's ok.
Re. Yngwie/Bradford - '98, I was there too, small world! I'm not far from you, at Scartho, near Grimsby.
I too have an Ibanez, though my shredding was never what it could have been, too busy making a living playing other people's stuff, such is life.
I tend to be into the mid/late '80's, early '90's AOR stuff really, though there is still some good stuff around if you look for it.
Keep on rockin'!

I like the same period of the 80's too and when the 90's came along, I began to despair because it seemed there was nothing left to buy anymore.......until 1994 when I discovered this guy called Sid at a shop in Halifax called Groové (he now has his own shop in Hebden Bridge called Muse Music). It was total paradise for a hard rock/aor/neo-classical addict like myself and my musical palette has never dried up since. I love other music too like Jazz, Funk, Classical etc.
Anyway one thing about that HeadAC3he program I forgot to mention, was that you need to download the various seperate .dll files from the same website. The program needs these .dll files to be copied and pasted into the main program install folder. It uses them to decode or encode to various formats like MP2 etc.
The whole process of making the .ac3 file, then turning it into a .wav or .mp2 and then finally using it to make the mpeg video, takes just a few minutes on my PC which is old by todays standards. I have a Celeron 1.2GHz which was cutting edge around 2001!
By the way, if you are not bothered about having fancy DVD menu's on your disc, you can actually just stick the video as a DVD-ROM data disc, where any audio frequency will work - you don't need to stick to DVD video standards of 48kHz on a ROM disc, only if you are making a DVD Video Disc.

Hi Ego.
The past couple of days haven't gone to plan and I haven't had chance to get on my writer to try out your latest.
It will probably be Monday now before I can as I have a heavy weekend gigging, so just a quickie to let you know.
Will let you know how I get on ASAP.
With thanks, as usual.
Pete
ps.. we must share some Ibanez stuff, I need to check out your music downloads too, where are they?
