  1. Any advice on a quick method to validate a DVD Backup. I recently backed up one of my DVD's and went to play it and found that it was corrupt. Tried to use ISOBuster but it was unable to read the last VOB file? Was just curious if there was software (other than verify on Nero) that would check that the newly burned DVD was accurate or if the actual media was ok after the burn?

I build an ISO if Im burning data or a movie, and then burn with DVD Decrypter. It has an option to Verify, so I use that and if I'm using good discs like Ritek G04 (Even burnt at 4X) or Memorex +R (RicohJPN media ID) it verifies successfully. TDK's at 1X wouldn't even verify right for me, so remember it may be media causing this problem you're having. Use good media, and if its data...ALWAYS verify after a burn. I don't verify movies but for data backup/storage its a must.

Is your drive 4X capable? If so I suggest picking up a few G04's, look for like a 25 spindle or something so you can test it out and see if the media works better for you. I think supermediastore.com sells them by 25's. The TDK's worked ok for movies and for game backups but I would never burn real important data onto them if I were you.

  5. Yes its a Lite-On. I have used Ritek and have had zero coasters but a friend gave me 10 TDK DVD-R blanks and experienced 2 coasters immediately and I guess now make it 3 since the movie did not play completely. I will definately purchase more Ritek.

You can try cdcheck to verify the integrity of the burned data. Do a google search for it.

Many time I've had nero tell me that the verify failed..
I then save the log file and look for the the files it complain'd about and compare them with a hex editor (Beyond Compare 2, or WinHex) do a binary compare and guess what - nothing, zero, zilch, nada

Both hex editors tell me no differance found - most of the time (only once was nero right and then it was only 38 odd clusters and the disk played fine)
