Hi, I do alot of video capturing with my computer PC, therefore i have to situated the PC base unit about 1/2 a meter away from the Video & TV. But often I get visible diagonal lines on my TV and Video too (how do describe these diagonal lines?, erm... it's like the movie is raining, but not. This is only visible when the action is slow, and not visible when the picture is bright & fast). I noticed that it happens more often on BBC1, a bit less on BBC2, ITV even less, but almost perfect CH4 & 5.

Unfortunately, these diagonal ghost lines occur within the capturing process too?!

If switched off the PC for more than 3hrs, and then watch the TV, every channels is perfect again, and still perfect with the PC switched on for the 1st hour.

I know it's some kind of interference from the base unit, but don't know what and how 2 eliminate it.

Does anyone knows what is going on please??

    THank you in advance...

Hi again, Could i add some further info, so i can get the exact help that's needed.

I am capturing using a Canopus ADVC-100 device.

    Here's how i connected up:
Normal RF (aerial) cable to Video (VCR), and VCR RF output to TV for viewing.
Gold plated SCART adapter (with input/output switch @ the top of the adapter), plugged to the VCR AV2 (decoder) socket at the rear of the VCR. Then gold plated video/audio cables conected from the SCART adapter to the Canopus ADVC-100 for capturing. The ADVC-100 is then linked with Firewire cable to my PC. That should complete the connection for capturing.

Q: Could i just replaced the aerial cable with a shielded one or a low interference cable?? Instead of using a power conditioner as well?

Any help would be most appreciated.

  5. When you got all that RF interference floating around such a small area, the more sheilding you get the better off you will be. Try to keep power supply wires away from signal cables, use short signal cables that are just long enough to reach where they have to go, and are of high quality and shielded.

And is your monitor close to all that mess? If its a CRT it will give off some nasty radiation, especially if its a more inexpensive one that does not have good shielding for EMF radiation. I notice since I have a dual monitor setup, my monitors are a foot apart and they cause flickering and garbage on one another. So if you do keep that bad boy as far away as possible from your Tv and stuff.

No the monitor is not the problem, because i situated the monitor & TV about 1.5m apart. Cause if they are too close to each other, it will cause some nasty flickering, like you said.

I think all i need some high quality shielded aerial cable connected from my where the aerial joint is to my VCR, keeping the RF signal as clean as possible. But this i haven't tried?? So i cannot say it the end result.

If any of you guys here have experience with high Q shielded aerial cable, could u pls verified this for me, THX in advance...

It all depends on your budget.... You could spend thousands on a power conditioner and cables... Just go with the best you can afford. Monster cable products are good middle of the road.

This is an area that so many people overlook when figureing out how much to spend on new electronics... I usually assume $50-100 (usd) for each connection... It does you no good to have thousands in equipment linked up with $10 cables...

You know I was experiencing some interference of some type myself while capturing. After I would capture and playback the file, the playback would have these reddish cracks in the video. Any ideas...

I'm using ATI All In Wonder Radeon with MMC 7.7
