I was having a problem getting my DVD-R to play in a Kiiro DVD player on the PAL setting. It was jittering with any movement. This was after encoding my files in Canopus Procoder.
However when I used TMPGenc they played perfectly. Is it common that the encoder you use can effect compatibility??

The jittering can be caused by too high bitrate, i.e. above the DVD limit. -
Your max bitrate is too high. 9500 is very close to the DVD limit and once you add the audio you may reach it. Software players don't normally have a problem with this (did you play it on your PC? probably it was OK) but standalone DVD players do (though not all; some are more tolerant).
Why only with Procoder and not with TMPGEnc? Well, encoders are not that precise and will not respect the max bitrate 100% of the time. I always thought TMPGEnc was one of the worst in this respect (especially on short clips) but there you go - Procoder is even worse (though I've never tried Procoder so I'm speaking from your experience). -
I used the bitrate calculator on this site and since I'm using AC3 audio there seems to be plenty of room.
I am choosing Procoder mainly because I'm not sure exactly how to judge the encoded quality. If I play it interlaced on a PC, Procoder comes out on top, but deinterlaced there is no huge difference on TV or PC.
Should I disregard how it looks deinterlaced?? I might be sending discs to people in future and want the discs to look as good as possible however they play it.
Also, Procoder seems a bit faster. -
I assure you ... deinterlacing destroys the footage, and anybody can easily tell it is not perfect.

Run the video through a bitrate viewer. There isn't plenty of room. DVD limit is 10000kbps. Your max is at 9700 assuming your're using 192 for audio. I've put many videos through a bitrate viewer and some had peaks of over 1000kbps above what my max was set.
As for the de-interlacing, as lordsmurf said, leave it alone. -
Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. When I say deinterlaced, I mean when the software deinterlaces the footage. I interlace lower field first, but watching the MPEGs in Real player you get interlaced footage and the stuff from Procoder always looks better interlaced.
Does it matter what it looks like interlaced on a PC?? Should I care??
I used Bitrate viewer and the peak was 5894kbps for the footage encoded in TMPGenc and 6034kbps for footage encoded in Procoder. Maybe it doesn't need to go much higher because my source footage comes from VHS but is captured with an analogue digital bridge. -
OK, so the bitrate is not an issue.
At what point do you get jitter in the movement? Right after encoding, after authoring or after burning and playing in your standalone?
I'm not sure what you mean by "when the software deinterlaces the footage". Which software? -
Did the DVD-R play OK in your PC? Also did you try playing the authored DVD with a software player before burning? If so, was it OK?
If it worked fine on your PC in both cases then the chances are you did create an incompatible MPEG2 stream with Procoder. PCs are far more tolerant than standalones.
It could be the field order (though this you can spot on a PC as well), GOP structure, GOP size... I don't use Procoder so I don't know its settings. Post your settings and ask help from Procoder users.
