  1. I just got XLR8 USB Interview Video Capture on OS8.6 and want to capture 2hr VHS Video to VCD. After having wasted several hours trying different options and being totally confussed, wanted to get some help with the basics. I do not have (nor want to go buy) Virtual PC type software.

To capture a movie, I used 320x280 and Cinemak and No compression options at 29.97 fps with key at 30 fps and Stereo Sound (44KHz) with no compression. Got my 2 hr quicktime mov (1.1 GB) and playback is very choppy on Quicktime v5.0 and the video is much darker.

Now using Strata Videoshop 4.5 I cut the movie into two 1 hr sections and want to place each onto VCDs. With cutting, I have to resave the movie but that requires recompressing it and I have noticed an additional sever drop in quality.

Using Toast 5 to convert the quicktime movie, I have noticed no difference since the original is already bad. Have not gone the addional step with this movie yet but did take a short quicktime demo movie for a test run and that worked okay, could be better.

Does anyone have an idea as to what would be the best process with settings (in detail all the way), using the equipment I have, that would give me the best quality possible VCDs from VHS Video Home movies?

A bonus is that I want to add menus to my VCDs if I should want to add multiple short movies into one VCD. Anyone know how to do this on a mac?

I intend to give the home movie VCDs to family to watch on their DVD players that play CDR - VCDs and SVCDs. Thank you for any and all help.

  2. Scotty,

Did you ever get an answer about creating menus on VCDs on a Mac?

    Thanks,
    Chris

  3. Have not even successfully captured a clean/clear movie yet. Haven't gotten to menus yet.
And no, have not heard anything about creating VCD/SVCD menus on a Mac = (
