  1. Suppose I got an avi(divX) file which quality is such that there is no idea converting it to higher resolution than a VCD. However I like to fit it on one DVDR and therefore I could use the half D1 resolution which is akin to VCD.

My question: Is half D1 that many standalone recorders use for 3h+ recording the same as CVD? If not how do I convert a DivX to Half D1?

Half D1 is the same as the resolution used by CVD. This is 352 * 480/576 (NTSC/PAL). It is used by many DVD recorders for 3h+ recording modes.
