Hi guys,
I have some dual layer discs that contain two seperate films. They're pretty basic discs - there is a main menu where you select which film to watch, which leads you to another menu with just "play" and "scene selections" options for whichever film you choose. No extras or multiple soundtracks.
What I want to do is seperate each film and burn each to a single dvd-r. Since the actual size of the discs is around 7 - 8 gb, and each film has approximately the same running time, I figure each should be less than 4gb and each can be burned to a single dvd-r with no re-encoding or loss of quality.
Can anyone tell me what software I need to accomplish this? I would like to retain the menus, or at least the Play/scene selection submenu for each film, but that's not absolutely necessary.
I found one guide in the "how-to" section that seemed to be what I needed, but the link was dead. I figure that with the lack of extras and multiple soundtracks this should be pretty simple, but so far my experience is limited to simple single layer dvd to dvd-r backups with DvdDecrypter, so I'm not sure how to go about this.
Thanks for any help,
Roy

1 way would be to rip VTS_01_1.VOB - VTS_01_n.VOB and VTS_02_1.VOB - VTS_02_n.VOB (All of the VOBs of your movies) to separate directories on your HD. For VTS_01, use IFOEdit to create VIDEO_TS and VTS_01_0 IFO and BUP files. For VTS_02, rename these to VTS_01... and use IFOEdit to create VIDEO_TS and VTS_01_0 IFO and BUP files. Burn each directory to its own DVD-R. No menus retained here though.
Another way would be to use DVD Shrink and set the second title to still pictures for the first disc and vice-versa for the second. All menus will be retained but 1 title on each DVD will be pretty much unwatchable.
Both methods will retain original quality. If in doubt, Google it. -
Have you considered DvdReMake for this task? With it you can create completely customized back-ups. You can even fix your menus to reflect changes you do to disk content.
