I installed latest Xvid codec. Conversion from a high quality MJPEG AVI shows that the resulting one or two-pass Xvid video is deinterlaced, or that every other frame is dropped. I want the output to remain interlaced. How is this accomplished?

DivX encoding of MJPEG AVI files using VirtualDub is fine. It is not as good as MPEG-2 encoding of MJPEG AVI files using TMPEnc, but at least pan and zoom motion in DivX is smooth. So it is normal for Xvid encoding to deinterlace the source?
