  1. I have
    4 mpgs (MPEG1)
    1 avi (MPEG4)
all with VBR mp audio, I assume!?

    Now
    1. To WHAT should I convert these to loose as few quality as possible?
    2. Should I use iDVD to merge the above videos on a dvd and design a menu for it?

    Thanks

  2. what are the specs on the mpegs and avi's? What are you (and I'll assume here that it is dvdr or nothing) trying to convert to.

If the frame size is below 720 (or 704) x 480 (NTSC) but greater than 352x480 and fps is 29.976, then I would convert to nonstandard CVD with 48 mhz audio (352x480) and then author with whatever application you author with.

If the frame size is at 720 (or 704) x 480 29.976fps, then convert to 720x480 (although with it being mpeg1, might just want to stick with 352x480).

Less than those (or even at those sizes), you could just make a VCD/DVD, which you upsample the audio to 48mhz and then author to 352x240 (NTSC) and most players (check on the left) should play them.

If you want a more descriptive answer, please list:

    frames per second:
    audio:
    Frame size/aspect ratio:
    final result:
do you want maximum compatibility or is you dvd player the only one. If so, what is it?

the LAST thing you want to use is iDVD that piece of crap program only accepts dv/mov files as input, so you want to use something like sizzle or dvd studio pro

yes it is. Shame on these people!

Cant you set Toast 6 to Pal and drop in your files and have it do the converstion over to dvd?!

you will get menu buttons for the various input files.
If the export is more than 4.4 gigs just run dvd2one on it and there you go.
