I got a dtv receiver and a lot of diff pvr software I have the windvd recorder software which i think is one of the best since it allows for custom templates. My question is how could I use my dtv reciever and my wintvgo pci card to do this? I've seen software that allows you to change the reciever thru a serial cable from the pc but how to program it to change at any given time I dunno. so what solution is there for me? I know I could just used windvd recorder to record channel 3 from a line out from the reciever but I woul want this to record for me without being near the pc. I've heard intervideo's windvr software will turn your pc on and record then shut off but can you make custom templates too? If so maybe I should look more into windvr.
    Thanks in advance

  2. WinDVR does allow you create custom templates for resolution and how big the file size is before it splits it. For DVD recording you can set the bitrate to keep the file sizes smaller on long captures.

Well I have another question too. I used a composite out from the reciever to my wintvgo card and when i watched it thru dscaler it looked crisp and fine, when i preivewed it thru windvd recorder it looked more blurry. why is that? is it the program itself or what? I think I've found a solution though snapstream's beyond tv 3 can do what I need it to do. I have to buy a serial cable f to m about 12 ft. then when you have the serial cable hooked it beyond tv 3 changes the channels on the reciever. IT says it better to have a card like a hauppauge wintv pvr 250 for the hardware encoder but all I have is the wintvgo. The highest I can cap mpeg2 is only at around 4500 kbps for 720x480 and 352x480 is around 5500. Too bad my processor is only 833 mghz. anyway I'll give this a try but first I have to find a serial port cable for cheap. I'll post the results after thanks

WinDVR looks blurry because it does a blended deinterlace. It's on of the worst programs for MPEG capture. Use ATI MMC (ATI card only), MainConcept 1.4 or PowerVCRII with reg hacks.
