  1. I have a lg gsa4040b burner at v302 and am using DVD shrink 3.1 with Nero6. -R's work great but can't get a good +R for the life of me. Tried many brands. Burns error free but won't play on any of my players or drives. Any suggestions?

  3. i prefer -R, but i have no objection to burning to +R if i find a good deal on good media..

i have a few verbatim +R's that work fine in my sanyo dwm370, ps2, and symphonic dvd/vcr..

    a couple of suggestions;

    try good media (verbatim, non-CMC)
    burn with recordnow max

I am burning and reading +r Ritek G04's with my Lite-On 851S, burning with Ulead Studio 7 SE, and reading them in my standalone ONKYO CP500. Also able to use Memorex +RW's with no problem.

  5. i use only memorex dvd+r (ricoh only, not cmc!) and they burn fine in my pioneer 106, play on standalone panasonic (about 8 years old) and phillips (about 1 month old)

can't get -R to play in my standalones, maybe you have the reverse problem i have?

i'll just stick to +R, no big deal.

BTW, I have a -R that won't play in standalone but copied to +R format and now plays fine....

    go figure

  6. I've gotten approx 99% success with branded TDK DVD+R. I got them on sale for $119 for 100. And the one coaster I had, I can't be sure it was a media problem rather than some fluke with the burner or software.

They play in everything I've tried them in so far.

Using Sony DRU500A, 2.0g firmware (there's an h version now), Stomp RecordNow Max

  7. Are you sure your dvd player supports +R disks? Try playing them back in your computer dvd-rom drive and see what happens. if it works, then its obviously the standalone.

  8. Did you burn with all the relax ISO restrictions unchecked in Nero? If not, try doing that and see if it helps.

FYI! I burned some Memorex +RW's on a Micro Advantage 4x DVD drive, and they would not read in my CP500 Stand Alone. Yet I tried them again burning them on my Lite-On DVD, and on my Khypermedia DVD, and I can read the +RW's from both of those burners. Guess you just have to find what works good with which burners.... Overall, I've had the best success with the Ritek G04's. I'm getting consistent 8x burns on 4x media with no problems..

  12. Same Drive, I only use Maxell's now everything else I've tried has been risky,I haven't had any troubles with Maxwell's been using the +R's but now they have the -R at 4X for the same price I will be trying them next.

  13. I have the same unit and have been burning ricohjpn +Rs (Fuji, Memorex) with no problem. I have had a problem doing Fujifilm -R, prodisc s03, they are marked x4 and dvd info confirms this, but Nero6 will only burn at x2 (the selection is grayed out and allows only x2). Any ideas to get this to burn at x4?

I agree with this poster, I use the TDK +R and try to wait for the 100 Pack to go on sale...This week at Best Buy they have the 25 pack for $25...so load up if you need some.

  17. C't did burn analysis on several burners and one was the GSA-4081B. I know that's not yours, but assuming it may have the same compatibility the best plus media was Ricoh at 4x and then Verbatim at 8x, but that specific LG burner did show quite of bit of fluctuation in burn quality among the other brands.

I prefer Verbatim 4X but have had 100% success with Maxell, TDK, and Fuji on my Pioneer(s), my daughter's Yamaha & RCA, and neighbors Samsung & GE. I burn +R / +RW only.

I have had terrible luck with Memorex +RW (2.4X).

My burners are Plextor 708A and Sony 500AX.

    Really?

That's my favorite +RW disc. On an Optorite, no less.

Just goes to show you, it definitely is not a one-size-fits-all world. I can throw almost anything at my Plextor, hell I could probably burn 1X on a flour tortilla, but I just can't seem to get consistency with the pack of Memorex's I have. They are the 2.4's and fortunately I only paid $19.95 for a 25 pack. Maybe it;s a bad batch.
