  1. "Pioneer said that neither the A06 nor A07 could be upgraded to dual layer burning capabilities and that only the A09, due for Christmas 2004 would add dual layer DVD-R support, at 1x speed. In the meantime, there will be an A08 burner that burns DVD-Rs at 12x or 16x (the specs are not yet known), since the A09 will handle single layer DVD-Rs at 16x speed."

I just read on the doom9 website that the A09 might be able to do 2x burning on dual layer DVD-R discs when it comes out.

I guess it is far enough ahead that it is hard to tell for now.

  3. Pioneer has a lot of catching up to do as the BenQ DW1650A drive, which will be introduced in October, might already be able to write double layer DVD+R at 4x speed.

  4. I read somewhere the AO8 due in July would have DVD+R DL capability too (so all you DVD-R users could enjoy DVD+R DL at 2.4x before you start burning DVD-R DL at 2x early next year)

  5. By the time double layer DVD-R comes out, the price of double layer DVD+R will have gone down (hopefully). And since there's been no announcement of double layer DVD-R discs yet, I wonder how long you'd have to wait before you can start burning double layer DVD-R?
