  1. I am having trouble creating a DVD-Video disc that will be playable on all DVD Players.

I recently received a DVD+R disc from a dealer that was recorded on a Stand-Alone recorder (make/model unknown). It was recorded in 4 hour mode and the video is encoded at 352x480 pixels. (Half D1?)

The disc has two folders on it. VIDEO_TS and VIDEO_RM. The disc as-is (as well as direct copies onto DVD-R media, etc...) will not play in my new Pioneer DV-563AS (DVD-Video/DVD-Audio/SACD player). But the disc seems to play fine in other players.

I copied the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder and created an empty AUDIO_TS folder and re-burned the disc. It now plays in my Pioneer player just fine, but not in other players.

So I next copied both VIDEO_TS and VIDEO_RM folders along with an empty AUDIO_TS folder to another disc. That one won't play in any of the players.

So I'm looking for a little help. How can I take what I have and create a disc that will be playable in all players without re-encoding the video?

I considered re-creating the disc using Vegas and DVD-Architect, but DVD-Architect wants to re-endcode the video to 720x480 pixels. I could find no template in the system that would allow the 352x480 video as-is.

I look forward to any help that can be provided. Thanks!

  2. I had the same problem with the 563A. It doesn't like the Philips standalone video format, although I haven't cared enough to figure out exactly why.

All I do is create a new DVD Video session in Nero and copy the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder to my new project and burn. This should create a standard disc that all players will like.

I can say however that this intolerance of the 563A for standalone discs is unique, from my experience. May have something to do with it's DVD-A capability looking for an AUDIO_TS folder that is not present on Philips created discs.
