  1. First of all, I should probably let everyone know that I'm a complete beginner with DVD authoring. I have read several of the guides on this site, but none of them seem to address the type of authoring I am trying to do.
I would like to get a home movie that was shot in widescreen onto a DVD-r. I know there are a hundred convoluted ways to do this by using a combination of freeware apps, but I was hoping there was an all-in-one application that I could just drop the movie into and burn on DVD? The closest I've come was with Ulead Movie Factory 2.0, but it basically removed the widescreen and stretched the picture. Is there any easy to use all-in-one software out there that will convert and then burn the widescreen movie as intended to be viewed?

  2. No all in one that I know of, but you could use TMPGENc Plus to convert the file to MPEG and then use something like DVD-Lab, which supports 16x9.

  3. Yeah, you'll probably end up having to use atleast 2 programs. All you need to do is convert to mpeg, and then either DVD-lab, or TMPGEnc DVD Author can be used to make a compliant DVD without messing with the 16:9 ratio.

  4. Thanks guys! It worked perfectly and it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. I used TMPGEnc Plus and then burned it to DVD-r with TMPGEnc DVD Author. It looks great!

  5. I also have the same problems burning widescreen. So I went ahead and gave TMPGEncPlus and TMPGEnc DVD Author as suggested.

However, during the encoding process. I didn't see any video in the preview screen and as a result after I burned the dvd, the disc only has audio and no video at all.

Any idea as to what I did wrong?

Please help and thanks in advance.

  6. when your encoding, in the bottom right corner of TMPGEnc, there should be some selections like video only, audio only. make sure system (audio + video) is selected. that might be your problem.

  7. No, I have that checked. ES Video + Audio. I was wondering about those advance settings regarding VBR and bit rates. Could those it it?

  8. You do not have the proper video codec, or TMPGENC cannot find the correct one.

Check the origina file with GSPOt and see what video codec it needs.

  9. I ran it through Gspot as suggested. I tried it first with my older full screen videos. Gspot checked it clean and the picture did show up on the preview screen in TMPGEnc. However, when I tried it with my current original video I am working on, Gspot said my original file has corrupted AVI header....huh? any idea what that is and how do I go about fixing it.?...I suspect that's the reason why when I encode, all I got was a blank screen in TMPGEnc.
