i have 2 700mb avi files (they are xvids) know how to make a dvd out of one of the files, buut i want both on one dvd+r disc, im guessing i need an avi joiner programme to join the 2 files together, then i should end up with a 1.4gb file....if i follow the usual virtualdub - tmpgenc plus - tmpgend dvd author method, it would work out great, only my output folder wont fit onto 1 cd.....how do i fit it all onto 1 disc? can i do it with dvdshrink? if so how? looked at guides already but finding it a little daunting and would like a simple explanation please.....thanx for all the help ive received in here btw if it wasnt for this site id still be trying to burn my first dvd.

Why are you so certain that if you encode the files seperately your DVD will be too big? Plug the total running time into a bitrate calc and you should be fine if adhere to that bitrate. Is it that you are using CQ?

If you want to attempt to join the two avi's you should probably use Virtualdub. As long as both files have the exact same properties they should join fine, although if they have VBR audio you might want to try Virtualdub MP3 Freeze. Anyhow, open avi #1, then go to file and select "Append AVI Segment" and load avi #2. Set the video menu for direct stream copy and save as avi.

  4. Sod joing the files.

Open them in tmpgenc with the wizard mode relevant to your files e.g pal 16.9. When the wizard automatically calculates the size half it.

    Repeat this for file 2.

Insert both into tmpgenc dvd author.

    Burn

    Watch and enjoy.

There is no point in joining them you will probably notice a 1/2 second jump when tmpgenc dvd author switches to the second file. I did this exact same process with a movie I watched last night.
