I've written a guide to overclocking an AMD based computer. It's nothing special or exact, more a rough guide to the method you should use and a few pointers towards what you need for overclocking, and software to test it with.
If you haven't had any experience with overclocking, it could be useful. If you have, it's probably not useful.
I thought it might go down well here, because a lot of the people on this site need as much processing power as they can get. An overclock might help.
Anyway, I'll see what the results to this poll are. If they're in favour I'll find out how to get it up.
Thanks for your time.

sure, there have been horrible guides in the past.. its not like if you made a bad one it would lead to the downfall of vcdhelp. hopefully it is good..
one piece of advice though, dont make the cooling system cost as much upgrading to the cpu to the speed you're overclocking to. -
I'm not talking abuot major overclocking, my guide is aimed much mroe toward taking a standard machine and squeezing a bit more perfomance out of it, or how you take an XP2500 and boost it up to XP3200 speed.
I do mention cooling in it, but for the purposes of the kind of overclocking I'm familiar with, it's not necessary to spend more than £20 or £25, should your system need it.

There are a truckload of them at:
http://www.ocforums.com
but everyone's process is a little different, go for it. -
I just thought it could be a nice thing to have on this site, specifically, instead of linking to other sites.
I was really looking for a way I might contribute something to this site. I don't do much else...

Then post in the computer forum, we'll soon tell you if it's shite.
Why you need a poll to make a post is beyond me

Just wondering if it's worth my while spending time on it, Will.
Surely you don't enjoy wasting your time? Oh, wait....

You're right, I did say I'd written it, but I think it needs a bit more work before it's any good. I think it's a little unclear just now.

For me at least, you'll never top your signature as a worthwhile contribution to this site

Hey, you know what...I teach for a living. And one of the first things you learn is that 2 different people can say the same thing and a kid will understand one of them but not the other.
Everyone learns different, I say go ahead, clean it up a little if you want and post it.
What's the worst that can happen? People not read it? -
There would be a few problems with making a guide for this, such as the method to overclock can be different depending on the motherboard you have. Some mobo BIOS have OC features built right in where some require hacked BIOS to unlock multiplier/voltages/memory speed. It would be best for the individual to do a search for a guide specific to their motherboard and CPU combo. If anything just be sure to put some major disclaimers on the guide so that someone doesn't come after you or this forum for their mistakes.

This is a guide only. If you screw your computer up in any way, shape or form by doing anything I say or imply in this guide, don’t come whining to me.
OVERCLOCKING MAY RENDER SOME WARRANTIES INVALID
CHECK TO SEE WHAT YOU’LL LOSE FIRST INCASE IT ALL GOES WRONG
IT’S YOUR CHOICE, NOT MINE. PLAY WITH FIRE, YOU MAY GET BURNED.
DON’T SAY I DIDN’T WARN YOU!
With regards to some people not being able to overclock - that's unlucky, but the majority of people should be able to do it.

A touching thought Cobra but a waste of time.
When it comes to overclocking ,those that know - do / those that don't shouldn't - period.
BTW if that 2500+barton is one of the unlocked ones, you will get better performance by lowering the multi to 10 , increasing the FSB to 210 . (mine is rock solid @ these setings with a 0.05 voltage increase) Idle@low 30's - Encodes @mid 40's (case temp @mid 20's) -

What is this overclocking shite, a secret club?
I knew **** all about capturing before I started.
I also knew **** all about walking and talking at one point but manage okay now, and I bet walking and talking is a damn site harder than overclocking a two inch peice of electronics.
Some of us would like to learn.

Holistic,
Whilst I take your point as valid, I wonder - where did you start?
I'm going to try and work out how the hell I upload this guide (in web page form) onto the University servers - nice and fast, and free to all but the taxpayer. :P
Thanks,

Will,
It is a valid point - you don't want to mess with stuff you don't understand, but the knock on point that I make is that the guide is there to rectify that problem.
Perhaps it was just a hasty point, Holistic?
