  1. I have one of those cool KISS DVD players, and it plays the first two parts of a mini-series just fine, but it refuses to play the third section, saying it has an unsupported codec:

    Codec MPEG4 with QPel

Yet when I go into AVICodec, it says that all three parts are the same, XVID MPEG4 with MPEG LAYER-3 for the audio.

So if it says they used the same codecs, why would it play two of them, and not the third? Is it possible the codecs are the same, but maybe the indicator for the codec is wrong, or something? Is there likely a simple way to fix this?

Probably because the 2 first episodes were encoded with the option q-pel off and the last with that option on.

Did you encode the episodes yourself ?

The only option afaik is to reencode the third episode...

  3. Oh crud ....

Am I liable to lose a lot of quality trying to reencode the thing?

And I guess the other thing is to find somewhere to fire off a request to KISS requestiong an eventual firmware upgrade which can handle QPel.

    So what IS QPel, anyway?

(And nah, I didn't do it myself, someone passed it on to me. I'm still nowhere near that far advanced!)

  5. Yeah, but what IS it? And why do people feel they have to use it?
