  1. This seems like a strange thing to me.

I've been playing with video settings trying to get a longer amount of play time per cd.

Leaving the audio alone at 224, I've gone to things like 750kbps using 2pass VBR, 750 average, 2000 max, 0 min with padding on. The video actually looks great, not much difference from 1150 standard VCD.

The problem is that while starndard 1150 VCD's play fine on my Pioneer 503 DVD player. The 750VBR VCD's that I made don't. Suprisisinly though, its the audio that is giving me fits. The video plays beautifully and looks great on my 35" tv - its the audio that stutters during playback.

Any ideas on this? I mean I can see where upping the video bitrate would solve video problems, but i'm having audio problems.

    Thanks for your help.

  2. It could be that your player doesn't simply like mpeg-1 VBR files. You could find out by creating a 750kbps CBR mpeg and seeing if the problem goes away.

The resulting mpeg will probably look worse than VBR, but perhaps it's still acceptable for your puropses. If you want to give a the video a little more room, you could increase the video bitrate to 800 or 850 and reduce the audio bitrate to 160.

  3. I've played with lowering the audio bitrate, but if I pause or scan forward/backwards I loose sound. Then I have to hit stop and play again to make the sound come back.

Thanks for the ideas, I'll make a 750 cbr to test, though it won't compare to 750 2pass vbr in quality.
