  2. VCD video format is actually a valid DVD format 352x288 (PAL) or 352x240 (NTSC).
VCD sound is not valid as it is 44Khz. All you have to do is convert to 48Khz to make it valid for DVD.

    Have a look here

No, a DVD just takes 4.37 GB data. But that's still pretty much when we're talking VCD spec video...
Does the player reconigze this disc as VCD?? and play it as a VCD?
No, cause it will be a Video DVD, as it's authored as a Video DVD. It just so happens that the specs for VCD mpg video is also part of the specs for DVD mpg video, which makes the transition from VCD to DVD really simple.

    Have you tried DVD-lab?

I recently did a DVD composed of a two NTSC SVCD (480 x 480) files for one movie. When DVD-lab IMPORTED the files it only converted the audio to 48K which took only a couple of minutes. The DVD creation time from DVD-lab was quick as no conversion of formats was necessary. The finished DVD had apporximately 1.5GB of data. So yes I could have put two movies and set up a menu on it if I had wanted to.

I have a Pioneer 563 player which is very picky on SVCD/DVD's and had no problem playing the new DVD.

480x480 is not a valid DVD resolution. You're just plain lucky that your player can play this kind of "DVD". Don't bet too much on that your next player will be as forgiving...
To get better compatibility, run your SVCD format material thru svcd2dvdmpg before authoring as DVD.
