  1. I'm not sure what section this belongs in, so let me tell ya what I'm trying to do... then I can ask in the correct section or if I'm lucky get some answers here...

I have captured video... nfo from avicodec (file nfo reader)
    File : 81 MB (81 MB), duration 0:23:57, type ASF, 1 audio stream(s), quality 10 %
    Video : 78 MB, 460 Kbps, 9.260 fps, res. 320*240 (4:3), MP43 = MS MPEG4 V3, Supported
    Audio : 11.40 MB, 66 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 chan., 0x161 = WM-AUDIO, Supported

I'm using TMPGEnc 2.56.39.143 Plus to try an convert the above file to either AVI or mpeg2. I think by the video being in .WMV (ASF) I can't use other things like virtualdud! But I like TMPGEnc!
Now the question is I have used a good deal of guides and other helpful hints, that even with failure, have helped me to learn more!
What I'm trying to do is to get this file converted to mpeg2 or avi... the files that I have done succesfully have come out not with very good quality, just alright! The video was a bit 'blocky' even with taking all the 'best' but slower options. I was thinking that if maybe I used Adobe Premiere not to edit anything but as to frameserve to TMPGEnc this would produce a better picture... any clues or other things I should try? Below are some settings I used for TMPGEnc 2.56.39.143 Plus keep in mind the file's nfo above .wmv (ASF) mpeg4 V3 also that funny 9.26fps.!

Using TMPGEnc 2.56.39.143 Plus my settings were:
System (Video+Audio)... sound was in sync!
    VIDEO: I took...
    Mpeg2
    352x480
    1:1VGA
    29.97fps.
Constant Quality (setting it to 100 maimum bitrate of 8000 min. bitrate 300)
    VBV Buffer size 224
    NTSC
    Non-Interlace
    YUV 4:2:0
    DC component precision 10bit
    Motion Search Highest Quality
    MPEG2

  2. You are trying to convert from a near-VideoCD MPEG-4 resolution 'downwards' towards a MPEG-2 Half-D1 resolution.

Two problems I see right away...

    1) You increased your vertical resolution from 240 to 480. With the bitrate and fps you listed, this is just asking for macroblocking.

    2) You're file has an extremely low bitrate that does not easily export to MPEG-2 compression.

If you got results that are almost acceptable, you maybe doing the best you can at this point. Have you tried making a true VCD yet?

Yea... I see what u mean! And that is exactly whats happening..'blocky', so what if I keep that original res.?
