Pioneer A04 Won't burn at 2X speed

Ive been using this drive for over a year now and no matter what i do i can't get it to burn at 2X only 1x is successful ?

I get disk failed at 2x error with nero and disk terminated with errors when trying to use nero. But nothing has been written to the disk and i can use it again fine at 1X.

i have the drive set to DMA mode in the device manager

I am using ritek G04 disks with the latsest firmware 1.41, But no matter which disks i try its still the same.

Can anyone shed some light on this please ?

i think i read a while back that someone fixed this by dissasembling the drive and cleaning the pick up manually can anyone verify this ?

Cleaning is always a good place to start with such problems.

Whether or not you're brave enough to rip the drive apart and clean it manually is up to you to decide. If you're experienced with similar things, it probably won't be a big deal. If you've never opened up your PC, a manual laser pickup cleaning may not be the best place to start!

Either way, I might encourage one to try an off-the-shelf cleaning kit prior to taking the more adventurous route.
