  1. Hello All, apologies for the long message, but I want to get the detail down. I know this is not a DVD question, but I don't think there is any better forum to ask.

I have finally managed to get my web cam set up on my pc (It is actually a Panasonic GS50 video camera which has a web cam mode). My home network has a Netgear DG834G ADSL Firewall Router set up and three PC's running from that.

I have been using MSN messenger to get it set up. I set up two MSN accounts, one on each PC and asked for a web cam communication. This did not work, or it almost did but the picture was half black and the rest was lines. I then tried a video conference and it worked perfectly, sound and picture.

I was then ready to try it over the Internet with my mates pc. He uses blueyonder with a straight modem to PC connection. I was able to communicate and become "MSN mates" I was also able to request and accept a video conference. However when it was accepted, no picture or sound came through at his end. It was just a black screen.

I have tried opening up all firewall rules but this made no difference. Can anyone offer any advice how I may be able to get this to work? Or is there another way I can go about it. (Apart from driving round there and chatting in person!!)

    Thanks in advance

  2. THE DG834G is the biggest peice of shit router on earth I have gone through five of them, they never work.

Maybe its just me but they suck.

You say you have setup rules, which ones and are they to ports that the webcam needs ?.

  3. Well, that is not really the most constructive piece of advice I have ever had.

    Anyway,

I have opened all ports so that really should not be an issue. I am gong to check the Pnp aspect tonight to see if that is enabled.

I have had no problems with the router at all, when you say you have had five, can I ask why?

  4. They continually crash, it never stayus on for more than 24hrs without me having to reboot it.

When you say you have openend all the ports have you forwarded them to your pc's ip address ?, this is the problem I had when I first started playing around with the firewall rules.

Sorry for the negativity it is just that I am really wound up with that product.

  5. No worries, I was only pulling your leg

To be honest I hardly ever have to reconnect and when I do i assume it is probably an ADSL supply issue. Did you upgrade your firmware to 1.0.3

All I did was select allow all and put in my internal IP address, I assume that was OK, howver the actual webcam did not work.

What have you been trying and how foar have you got?

I am not that clued up on webcam's, does the documentation say anything about it needing various ports to operate.

  7. here are certain ports but as I opened it up I do not see it as an issue.

I was on the Netgear site and did not see an upgrade above 1.0.3. Where did you hear about 4 and are you using it?

  8. I was using it, when I called up their helpline, they e-mailed me a link to it. I will try and dig it out for you.

  9. Cheers

So it is an official upgrade, I wonder why they have not posted it on the main web page. Did you find that it helped in anyway or have you now scrapped the hardware?
