  2. Yes, there is a new firmware.

New firmware (ver. A101) for only GSA-4081B
    Windows 2000
    Windows 98
    Windows XP
    Windows ME
    GSA-4081A101(ew).zip 1,179K

www.lgusa.com -> support-> Drivers -> CD-RW then pick your drive out of the list. I hope this helps.
    My rig is as follows:
    Athlon XP2000+, EPOX EP-8K5A2+, 512MB DDR PC2100, 200GB HD, Sapphire Radeon 9600se 128MB, Plextor 24/10/40 CD-RW, LG GSA-4081B DVD+RW

  3. The 4081B firmware update's ReadMe states that it is essential to update the 4081B with it connected as the master on secondary IDE channel with no other drives connected to the secondary channel as slave.

Is this really essential or just overkill?

    Martin.

  4. Overkill. I have the 4040b (almost exact same drive), and it says the same thing during firmware upgrades. Ive done 3 upgrades (and 1 downgrade) with no problems. I have it connected as SLAVE to a dvd-rom drive, lol. then again, there is a (small) chance that I may be wrong. But not really.

  5. Maybe i should start this question in a new thread...

Does anyone know what the upgrade to A101 from A100 firmware actually achieves?

    No doubt better media compatibility.

Anything else to tempt me into performing the upgrade?

    Martin.
