  1. i used to have a cd burner but recently upgraded to a dvd burner but am having problems converting all my vcd's to dvd now.
i use tmpeg to convert to mpeg2 but when i use tmpeg dvd author to author them to vob, they simply stuff around(sorry).
ive been messing around with gop stuff and i get messages "the gop is too long". so i set it to convert with standard gop and then i get a stupid message " the frame rate is 23.2 pal is 25 blah blah not do-able etc then i fix that (or so i think) and then get the message the resoulution is too high or too low. do you think that tmpeg would at least make their two well working pieces of soft ware be compatible with each other?
any help on converting plain mpg or mpeg file to vob ready for putting on a dvd video to watch on a dvd player?
keep it simple though im only 14 and still learning.
    thanks

I think you should start a Poll here. I vote for GIVE UP

Why you would want to convert VCD to MPEG-2 DVD is beyond me.

    Makes NO sense AT ALL

If you don't get that ... well like I said I vote for GIVE UP

    Welcome to the forum oscajope

I don't think you should give up till you're at least 15 , see if this helps you at all.

So you have VCD's that you have made previously.

You want to put your VCD's onto DVD-R's

This is the thing , converting to Mpeg2 WILL NOT improve the quality AT ALL.

What you can do is put your VCD's onto DVD-R's in Mpeg1 as they are now , You will be able to fit 3 possibly 4 movies on one DVD-R upto a max of around 7.5 hours running time.

Get Isobuster , with this tool you can extract the original mpeg from your VCD's to your HD.
You can join your Mpegs together using TMPGenc's mpeg tools so you have 1 mpeg per film.

Then you use TMPGenc DVD Author to 'compose' your DVD , creating menus and chapters if you wish for each film title.

Mpeg1 is a DVD compliant standard video , however the audio needs to be converted from 44.1KB to 48KB to be able to work on a DVD , TMPGenc DVD Authir does it for you, Just tick the box when it asks you.

Out of there comes a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder which you can use with say Nero to Burn your DVD.

It really isn't that hard if you do a step at a time.

First thing I would do is get 3 of my VCD's , extract the mpg from them with Isobuster . Then use TMPGenc to join the two parts of each film together and rename them so I knew exactly which film is which.

Then go on to the authoring................

Also you were investigating vobs etc. well once you've done the above you will find all your vobs inside the VIDEO_TS folder.

Oh and one more thing for Mpeg 2 use your high quality source material then you will have good quality DVDs , ie AVI's or original DVD's etc

    Hope this helps

I vote for DO SOME READING. It isn't that the two programs are interacting properly, it is just that there is a setting or two that isn't quite right and with a bit of perseverence you will get the results you want.

As mentioned in a number of different ways, you really only need to resample the audio to 48KHz. The easiest way would be to let TMPGEnc DVD Author do it for you.
    If in doubt, Google it.
