Problem: No sound when playing video (MPG file) in Pinnacle Studio 8
I captured an analog video (Sony Hi-8 tape) using a stand alone phillips dvd recorder model #985. Finished dvd disk has five(5) .VOB files. I copied the VOB files into my hard drive. Then I renamed the files (.VOB to .MPG)....and I'm able to play / view the movies with sound using windows media player and Roxio DVD max player. Next I imported the files into Studio 8 for editing (adding titles, music, transitions, etc.). When I play the file(s), I can see the captured movie but with no sound. Do I need to reconvert the files into something else in order to be workable in Studio 8 or is it just that Pinnacle Studio 8 does not like the VOB files? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe that Philips records sound as DOLBY DIGITAL dual channel AC3. Pinnacle Studio version 9 or 8 does not support AC3 sound. You can try to convert sound to MPEG or PCM, or you can try to find out if you can swtch sound option on DVD Recorder. SOmetimes in some modes you can choose PCM.
Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home)
