ok, this is probably very simple, but here i go:
i have a samsung Hi8 recorder and i want to put the footage from that Hi8 tape onto a VHS. im able to see my footage on my TV with the cable that has the AV plugins. i have a simple tv with only one AV imput which is for mono sound and video (white and yellow). my cable runs through my VCR then to my TV. i really need help, this is a spanish project which is due tommorow.

Make sure your vcr is set to line-in in record mode and start your camera playing and then get your vcr recording.Sounds like you already have your av from your camera connected to your vcr so you can start right away.By the way your avatar is really disturbing

when you say set to to "line-in" mode... is that just a button or do i need to re-wire some cables?
plus do i stick the AV cable from my camcorder into the TV imputs or the VCR imputs? -
ok, so here was my setup:
The VCR is not plugged into the TV in any way. My AV cable which ran from my camcorder went into the audio(mono)-in and video-in. i hit record on the VCR and set my camcorder in player and pressed played. but after i finished recording and played it back on the TV, it showed nothing but black... what happened? -
You have to set your vcr to line-in,read your vcr manual on how to do this, are you sure you got the av cables going from your camera to your vcr av inputs. You said that your cable runs thru your vcr and then to your tv and then you said your vcr is not plugged in to your tv?
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
well now i plugged it back into my TV... but shouldnt i be able to record without the TV?
and yes my cables go into my VCR inputs. ( i cant believe i typed imput... it's late over here*).
all i get is black -
This is so hopeless ...
You plug the output of the camcorder to the input on the VCR.
Your VCR has more than one input. Usually it has at least 2 inputs. Some may have more than just 2 inputs.
So you need to change the VCR to "look" at the correct input i.e., the input that the camcorder is plugged into.
This is usually done with the remote.
It is best to have the output of the VCR hooked up to the TV while recording so you KNOW that the signal is getting from the camcorder to the VCR (because if it is then it will also pass thru the VCR to the TV even while doing the recording).
I mean how simple is that?
I learned that when I played with my first VCR around the age of 12 and that was in 1984 when not everyone had a VCR yet. Point being ... this is simple basic stuff you are asking.
