  1. Do I need a new DivX codec for Panther?

Some of my .avis are playing with crackly sound since the installation.

Codec should be in the HD/ Library/QuickTime folder, not the System/Library/QuickTime folder, right?

to elaborate on what galactica is saying, VideoLAN doesn't rely on Quicktime codecs... It uses its own. If you have the newest version of VLC you shouldnt have any problems... It works beautifully even on my 500 G3...

  4. I agree - VLC works well even on my 300mhz G3, but since installing Panther on my TiBook, certain, not all, .avis, give crackly sound and/or crash the app.
The same files play fine on the G3 with Jaguar...

I'll wait for the next version.

The audio portion of the Quicktime Core was rewritten in 10.3; this has been known for some time now. Wait for newer binaries to use VLC; for now you should use QT as your player (as VLC cannot decode to Quicktime [audio] output)

  6. Hmmmm

Today I burned my 1st DVDR and when I went to test the VOB files I used VLC. Video was perfect, audio was gone. VLC error said, "core audio..." something or other.

I tried to use Quicktime 6.4 to play the VOBS created from DVD2Onex but Quicktime wouldn't work. This is why I downloaded VLC.

The DVD burn ended up great except that the video was 1.5 seconds behind the audio. On my DP G5/ Panther DVD Player and also standalone Samsung DVD player.

Boy, the video and audio quality were PERFECT though :P

    Any clues?

    Thanks

It seems VLC does depend on some CoreAudio libraries for audio, and this isn't updated for Panther yet. I would suggest trying the Mplayer port for OSX. As for the synching issue, what is the source of the video and audio? Did you do any conversion on the video (like from PAL to NTSC, or film to DV rate)? What did you use to get the files extracted, and what settings did you use?
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  8. I had this problem too, after doing an "update" install of panther, but it went away after i did a clean install to fix some of the other problems I was having.

  9. I am thrilled to have found VLC to play some archived dvd+R discs that I have. First disc worked great - video & audio. Disc #2 & #3 had video but poor audio. Audio volume is very low (despite volume settings) and sounds crackly. These are back-ups of commercial DVDs.

I tried the same problem DVDs in MPlayer OSX2 and can open a Video file and play with good sound for 20 seconds - after that video plays but no sound.

I'm on a G3 iBook, running Panther. Any advice?

    Thanks in advance,
    Chris H.
