Hey tgpo - I got it. Get an old PS2 or something and transfer the G5 emblem onto it and vice-versa. Then as you're rolling out your "PS2" tell them your work PC is in your office and this one is your personal property .......to just go check in your office if they don't believe it. As to the G5, get yourself a G4 or maybe G3 and carry it with you to work. Also get a couple of screw drivers and bring them too. Then just swap the motherboard.... OK, I know the G5 wont really fit in a G4 case, but it might be close enough.

Not sure what the TV market is like where you are, but if it is more than about 2 TV stations, you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding some kind of TV related work. Knowing FCP certainly isn't going to hurt, would be better if you were good with Avid, since people still seem to think it is better.

Starting out cold with as a production company can be difficult, and expensive. Look around your area for the other local production houses, and see if there could be a need for another one. If the local TV stations get most of the business for local commercials then you may or may not be able to pry their customers away. Getting in with a decent production house would be a good start, spend a few years with them, and then get out on your own.

If you like working with computers, and travelling, you might consider sports remote productions. Freelance Chyron operators can make anywhere from $250 to $450 for a 10 hour day. If you get really good with the editing, you can make up to about $100 an hour as a freelance Avid editor. Combine the 2 jobs and make a good living, I know a person in Boston that does both and makes his living that way. If you are really seriuos about the Chyron jobs, take one of the Chryon offered training courses, they often get calls from producers looking for crew people.
