Sony 530A and Media

What media is working with the Sony 530A?

Ritek +R 8X does not well at all, Taiyo Yuden -R 4X is just as bad. TDK +R 4X works 'bout 90% of time............

Suggestions please.

I have the Sony DRU-530a and I have a Toshiba DVD player. I bought Memorex DVD-R and DVD-RW discs (The Toshiba does not read + discs) and have had no problem with the media.

I have had 1 coaster, and that one was caused by me trying start an application that caused a LOT of disc-access causing the buffer to run empty. For some reason the buffer-overrun protection did not work that time.

Other then the one, I have made perfect burns with the Memorex media, and the DVD-RW discs have been used more then once without hassles.

Unfortunately, the list has not been updated since October 2003, and does not include the DRU-530a in the list (but it does link to that list in the DRU-530a support section).

Ironically, the TDK discs are mentioned on the -R section, but NOT on the +R section. Taiyo Yuden is listed.

Since the Optorite DD0401 uses the *EXACT* same chipset and construction manufactured by Sanyo, you may also want to look at their supported media list:

Either way, Memorex is not even ON any of the lists and I have had no problems with them. I chose Memorex because I never had any problems with their CD's for my CD burner. I felt kind of confident that it would work, and up until now it has. At least for my Toshiba DVD player and the writer itself in being able to play the burned discs.

why do you keep buying Sony ???? don't you read that are the WORST burners ever ?
i'm so sick of reading complains about Sony burners. Almost anything else is better than Sony.....
i have a Nec for 1 year, and so far i have not meat any dvd that did not work....everything, from cheapo Compusa to Maxell works perfect.

Did you flash the 530A to the 2.0A firmware?
