  1. Hi, I demuxed the AC3 5.1 soundtrack from an .avi of mine with virtualdub, then used TMPGEnc to convert the video from the .avi into a dvd compatible .m2v, but for some reason when I bring the AC3 audio into DVD-lab and author the DVD the sound doesnt play. I used PowerDVD to play the outputted VOB's and there was no sound at all. I have AC3Filter Installed but I still cant mux the ac3 audio into the DVD that I am authoring. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks In Advance,
    Huck

  2. Will the AC3 file play on its own? If the AC3 filter is installed, you should beable to play it with MS' media player.

  3. The AC3 will not play on its own but when i try to play the avi with the ac3 track in it, i hear everything fine. But to answer your question, no, i cannot play the plain ac3 file in Windows Media Player.

I use powerDVD to test my ac3 files.
Also, did you try playing the mpeg file?

  7. I have played the .m2v files and they play perfectly in PowerDVD aswell. If I double click on the AC3 file after I import it into DVD-lab's assets, I get an error message that says something about there being no software to handle this file.
Would it be worth trying to burn the VOB's I made even if the sound doesnt play on the comp, just to rule out any other issues?

Have you tried to fix the AC3 file with fx BeSliced?
It might lead to sync problems, but you can try to see if DVD Lab accepts it afterwards.

demuxed the AC3 5.1 soundtrack from an .avi of mine with virtualdub,
As VDub adds some wav headers when you "Save Wav" even if you do direct stream copy, it has to be run thru ac3fix.
Been doing this a few times, but I authored with ifoedit...

  10. Huck,

There is a directshow filter configuration problem then. Any valid AC file should play fine after importing it into the assets of DVD-lab.

I suspect that powerDVD has it's own built-in AC3 player and doesn't use a directshow filter. That is why it works. If it plays, if must be a valid audio file. Go ahead and burn a DVD+/- RW and try it!

In ac filter there is a checkbox that says 'make me the preferred filter'. Make sure this is checked.

  12. Ok, I re-installed the AC3Filter but to no avail. I realize that unless i can getthe AC3 files to play in Windows media Player they are not gonna work in DVD-lab. Does anyone have any other suggestions, perhalps and alternate ac3 filter or an alternate burning app that can handle multiple videos and AC3 5.1 sound (I have already tried TMPGEnc DVD Author but it only accepts 2 channel ac3 audio). If anyone has any suggestions i would be very greatful if you would share them.

    Thanks,
    Huck

  14. I have tried using tmpgenc dvd author but when I try to import the AC3 i get an error. I saw on the TMPGEnc dvd author site and it said that the ac3 filter does 2 channel. It didnt say that it supported 5.1 channels.

I think TDA will accept 5.1 ac3 files
I know that the AC-3 plug-in will only decode and encode 2ch (according to the help file) but the plug-in is not needed is your audio is allready ac3
