DVD Decrpyter will make a perfect backup of a DVD5 (single sided, single layer). At the moment it's impossible to make make complete, no loss, back-ups of dual layer discs.

    No Loss...
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that asked here in conjunction with the word backup...I'd be a rich person.
    DVD9 to DVD5....you can't put 9 pounds of shit in a 5 pound hole.

  9. I have a small issue with DVDFab with multi-angle movies.

No product seems to tackle this perfectly. DVDStripper comes close, but is inconsistent - did a beauty job on the Matrix, but the IfoEdit component bombs for others like Goldmember, with a resulting coaster. Multi-angle seems to be the bleeding edge of backup with these type of tools.

I'm now considering re-authoring a la http://dvdguides.trilight.net/ although the investment in time seems to be onerous...

I wasn't aware that a "HOLE" had weight....

    Dead_Indian -

To answer your question, to preserve original quality you have to split it over 2 discs...obviously. I do not do that, and Decrypter won't do that by itself. You'll need to look find a guide to do that. I believe DVDshrink will split to 2 discs...not real sure on that since I don't do it.

If you play around with the other tools like Pinnacle Instant Copy 7 and DVDshrink, I think you'll find that the quality can be undetectable from the original.

I did Matrix Reloaded in Instant Copy 7 and I can't tell the difference on a 48" HD screen, even through the highway major action scene. And I did Bad Boys 2 in DVDshrink and it is as sharp as the original also.

Just my opinion, you know what you are wanting, so if you want 2 discs then you want 2 discs. But I haven't ran into a DVD yet that I couldn't make without good quality video.

you hit the nail on the head

with a multi angle DVD, try using Ifoedit 0.96 as it has changed it's working regarding the last angle in a block and gives better results in this area

I know why it's happening and it's just a case of creating the process to do it right . Sometimes a quick mod to the IFO's fixes it but you shouldn't have to do that though

the Matrix DVD contains ILVU's and not Angle's so that's why it's OK

p.s. good luck with the reauthoring if you want to retain more than one angle

Thanks for the tip, although not sure where I would get 96...

But I will check when I get home. I am completely willing to hand-fix stuff, tho. Provided I can figure out what I'm doing lol. I notice a new free authoring product in the works... hmm...

http://www.ifoedit.com has it listed. What authoring tool is it?, gimme gimme gimme

I can help with a multiangle DVD issue if you want as I'm always interested in troubleshooting

@dead_indian_walking, you wanting menu's or movie only?

  14. New authoring software - actually, maybe not so new, but anyway...

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=180017

If you don't object, I will take you up on your very kind offer when I get home. One problem I have is the Watson report is unreadable to me, but then, I'm no wintel guy, just an AS/400 monkey who deals mostly with databases.

If you want my opinion, I think the DVDStripper is inches shy of being perfect... it's funny that a full-time software company like 321 with enough resources to battle a lawsuit couldn't get around to this themselves... but then again, they're busy battlling lawsuits... not sure of DVDFab's excuse though.

Oh well, it seems I must learn to edit IFO's and VOB's at a lower level for now. Should be interesting.

    peace

@djelimon, I see your issues now and there's nothing that can be done at the minute that will fix it manually

there are actually 2 problems, one being the angles are incorrect in the 2nd DVD and the other is that DS thinks the DVD is PAL when it's NTSC

maybe TMG can sort something out if he gets the time as both should hopefully be easily overcome
