  1. I get the following error when using DVD Shrink: DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Copy Protection Error The request could not be performed due to an IO device error.

I've tried 2 different DVD's so far, and got this both times, I am trying to backup the entire DVD with menus and extra features (although they are compressed), I have only selected english as a language. How do I get around this? Thanks!

  2. Clean the DVd's if that fails....use DVD Decrypter to rip all the files then process with DVD Shrink.

  3. Will try that. So this is not something that I'm doing wrong, just something that may be dirty on the disc? The first one I tried was brand new (office space).

Could be hardware. My Sony DDU-1621 DVD drive would give the same error on most DVD's, found that it was running in PIO Mode. Nothing I could do to it would help. Chucked it in the trash, and replaced with a Lite-On LTD-163. Works perfect now, and ALL other variables are the same.

I had the same thing when I tried to backup a dvd last night. I've successfully backed-up 10 or so DVDs up to now, but last night I got read error messages with Shrink, so moved on to DVD Decryptor which seemed more successful, but 2 of the vobs wouldn't extract properly so I gave up. I assumed this meant the disk was seriously scratched, though I didn't notice it to be. I assumed if it was scratched, that bit could be skipped and the rest of the vob would still rip OK, but that wasn't the case. I am using Nero 6. Would a scratch result in the read error or was it an encryption problem I'm wondering? I saved the Decryptor log but I'm at work so can't produce it here.
