  1. I ordered an E80 yesterday and thought of a few questions.
    1. Can you put a dvd or dvd-r(un copy protected) in the E80 and copy to the HD or do you have to use an external player to copy to HD
    2. Can you record a program on HD and dvd-r simutaneously? In case something goes wrong with the -r you can just make another from the HD.
    3. Is recording directly to -r in FR mode superior to recording to HD in XP and then transferring to -r in FR? Thanks.

That depends on what you are recording, tv programs, from another dvd, etc & you didn't say what.

  4. hello. in regards to your question about the flexible recording to dvd-r. I own the e 100 which is very similar to the e80. I would record in xp on the hdd and then use the flexible recording to dvd-r, the flexible only comes in handy when you are transferring something that is longer than the 1,2,4,or 6 hour recrding modes available. for instance, if you"re transferring something that that is, say, 2hours and 15 minutes long, the sp mode would be too short and the lp mode would be too long, so by using the fr mode it gives the best possible recording with the avaible disc space. hope this helps. I"m still experimenting with mine also.

Congrats on the choice of the E80. I'm very happy with mine ....

    1. No. Only DVD-Ram can go back to the HD. Use an external player and dump it in XP mode to preserve as much original qualtiy as possible.
    2. No. One recording device on at a time.
    3. I have tried both methods. I do mostly XP to HD then edit a play list and burn to -R in SP or LP mode. I don't notice any difference in quality than going directly to -R in the same (SP or LP) mode. Funny enough, I don't use FR much as I do alot of "compilation" disks that push 4 hrs. and if you are even a few secs. over the 4hr mark, it will bump down to EP level compression quality which I don't like the looks of....

  6. I also just bought an E80 and have been satisfied with its performance so far.

Two questions that I have are:
Is there another way to title chapters or scenes from a home movie besides dividing it and editing the original title for each new section to be added to the play list?

The imation 4.7 dvd-r that I dubbed and finalized works well on both my Panasonic dvd players; it is not recognized by my computer however. The computer is a dell dimension 8250 with xp and a 16x dvd-rom drive. The dvd-r is unlabeld. Is this caused by the brand of dvd-r, or my computer?

    Any input would be appreciated.

Have you updated your aspi firmware ?When I did it fixed my problem easy ,now I play all my burns with my E-80H on my computer. And finally it can be found here in the tools section.

  8. Thank you for your quick reply and suggestion. I down loaded the aspi 4.71.2 file. Unfortunately this has not resolved my problem. I have also checked dvd media menu and have not found anything conclusive about imation dvd-r's not being compatible.
    Thanks again.

  11. Hi All, Has anyone had any problems with recording from VHS to the HDD and about 37 mins into the movie the HD stops recording. I'm using the a copyguard stabilizer and it's working fine. I didn't try to record directly to DVD-R yet. I had recorded some VHS movies and it work fine. This one movie the Tin Men on VHS is the movie that stops the HD from recording halfway into the movie. Any sugestions or tips on this problem .

    Thanks

  12. I had that happen when copying a tape to dvd-r once. It was the macrovision. The stabilizer I had couldn't defeat it completely. I since got as AVT-8710 and it worked. I have found that on some older tapes from the 80s the AVT-8710 can't lock on to the signal when set to auto because of a difference in the copy protection used. Just turn the auto off and set to NTSC and it works fine.

  13. Thank you for that info. I will try that. I use the Simer Copyguard machine for the VHS and I use The 7.0 Stabilizer for the DVD's. That Movie The Tim Men on VHS Is an old movie. I will try turning off the auto and see if that works. Otherwise i have to switch back and forth from the DVD to VHS. I'm still trying to figure out on how to loop the VHS and DVD player to the copyguard machine and into the DVD recorder.
    Any sugestions?

    Thanks
    Dan
