  1. I have a I/O magic Dual 4x
    AMD1.3 Athlon
    160gig HD
    512Meg RAM
    Win XP Home

A hint for some of you to try now that i have tossed about 20 disks .......... I was getting bad lockups and bad pixelation. I would burn a dvd and it would work good for one play. Then I would put a stick on label on it and it would play like junk. Well after reading many post here , I tried a lot of thing with no secuss. I found one disk that was bad and got an idea . Peel off the label that i made for it and would you belive it, it played like the orignal. No problems at all. I no longer put sticker labels on them and I have had no problems since.

  2. Strange I have 500 discs all labeled and they all play fine. Just a suggestion but I would at least try a "bad" disc in a few other players.

  3. I thought it was funny that if I labeled the dvd it played like junk and if I just wrote the name on it with a sharpie no problems. As to your idea on other dvd players , we tried 3 other dvd players all different brands.

Someone else in the newbie forum is having issues with their dvdr's skipping and having jerky playback. One or two people who replied mentioned how their jerky playback issues ended once they stopped labeling dvdr's.

Therefore bob....I'd suggest that your player or your labeling prowess must be more the exception than the rule. I've seen far more posts saying they cause problems....than I've seen from folks saying they don't.

I'd advise avoiding the labels. A sharpie is sufficient. Tiz MY labeling technique. =)

I just use the fixture that came with my labels to align the label on the disc. I have three different players at home which play the discs fine and they also play on my mothers and two sisters players. The two times I have had problems playing a discs were not label related. One problem was crap Verbatim and Memorex discs and the other was with a Toshiba DVD player that refused to play most DVDR's (I gave that player away).

Can you describe what kind of labels you use and how they are applied?

  7. Presto,
I was using sure thing cd/dvd stomper and I have tries using basic labels from staples , avery (fullface and the regular) and the ones that came with sure thing cd/dvd and I used the fixture(s) that it came with to apply them to the dvd so they where aligned right

  8. I have found that if I use neato labels (non full face) then playback is okay on all players I've tried, however on certain discs I had used full face labels and all these had playback problems usually once disc was half way through.. Once I had removed the full face labels it had solved all problems.. so my advise is stay away from full face labels...

Just wondered... was anyone else here having problems using full face labels or were the problems occuring on normal labels aswell??

I'm a beginner at all of this copying dvd stuff - but now I'm an avid reasearcher because after copying over 50 movies, I've realized now that almost half of them have problems (because I was new at all of this, I didn't think about checking out each and every track). My problem is that famous stuttering or freezing and ultimately stopping of play. I took one of my problem discs - Another Teen Movie, peeled off the label and it now works fine! However, I did the same with Tommy Boy, and same stuttering problem. So it seems, that maybe it IS problematic to have full face labels (but in my case, something else is giving me problems as well). So at least I will no longer put labels on my dvds and maybe I can cut my problems in half. Now I just need to figure out what else is causing the stuttering problems!!

  10. I have also problems with labelling. I was using pressIt labels.
My experience is that the problem accurse mostly at fully written DVDs in combination with label.
I am looking for a new type of label. I ordered some test labels from Avery. They are saying that their labels are suitable for DVDs.
