I've captured a 2 hour TV program at full resolution, i.e. 720X576 pal.
I want to encode it using a trial version of TMPGENC to DVD format, without any losses before resizing the resulting files in Instant copy 8 to try to retain as much quality in the picture as possible.
Would this work.
I want to know before I spend 12 hours encoding files only to find out it wouldn't.![]()
Cheers for any feedback.

Encode a minute sample and see if that is to your liking.

There are a few problems with this method. First of all is the resolution that you captured at. If it's from cable the resolution coming in to your computer is probably more like 336x480 or if satellite it's at best 544x480 (NTSC, not sure what PAL is) so capturing it at 720X576 makes the file a whole lot bigger, but it does nothing whatever to improve the picture quality.
I'd personally capture closer to a resolution in line with TV broadcasts, encode the result in TMPGenc and then author with your favorite software. Takes a lot less time and the results are pleasing. -
Resolution has nothing to do with file size, its the bitrate that determines the file size,i capture at 640x480 and encode at 352x480 2500kbps to keep the file size down and keep picture sharpness, better than if i capture at 352x480 and then encode at 352x480.
