O.K. ... I had a hard drive crash and had to reinstall everything and something that I've been doing for months now doesn't work after the reinstall. Please bear with me.

    1) I have an AverTV turner card that I use to capture cable TV to MPEG-2 at 352 x 240, 3200 Kbits/sec (Video) & 224 KBits/sec (Audio).

    2) I then use MPEG Tools in TMPGEnc (2.521.58.119) to Multiplex the captured video, which makes editing in the next step easier (This step still works after the reinstall)

    3) Then I used MPEG Tools Edit to cut out the commericals ... This is where I now have problems. When I hit the edit button I get, "TEMPGEnc.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows".
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and even tried going back to two older version ... same result. I've had this working for months before my hard drive crashed and reinstall.

    I at a loss ...

Solved ... S/W update v4.31.3.0 to my AVerTV tuner card did the trick ... Finding that was it required a reformat and reinstall of Windows and My Applications. One the first applications I installed was TMPGEnc Plus. It worked fine until I installed the AVerTV turner software ... then my problem. I then uninstalled the AVer s/w ... still the problem. I updated my DirectX to 9. Still had the problem. I updated my video card drivers ... no go ... finally I found and applied this update which I had stored away on my harddrive and had forgot about. Anyway, I'd thought I'd pass this along in the unlikely event that anyone else has this problem.

Just a side note here ...

I have the AverTV Stereo PCI capture card. It is the same as the AverTV Studio cept one has an FM radio receiver and one does not.

Sounds like you might have one of these cards.

The AverMedia drivers are OK but give you an improper aspect ratio. I saw a HUGE difference when I used the BTwincap drivers as suggested by other users (including trevlac who knows his shit).

    So give it a try

With the BTwincap drivers you can capture at 352x480 with a near perfect AR or if you want full D1 do 712x480 then crop to 704x480
