Sure, but i think to get the best results, you need the help of a hardware card, much like Matrox or Canopus....

Have you ever done it or know where I can get more information about doing that? 'cause I have a radeon 9700pro which I believe has dual monitor output. I've just never managed to figure out how to work it.

Embarrisingly and humbly, no, i haven't..
As far as i know, if your card has drivers that are supported by Premiere, then you should be okay to go..
Within Premiere, go to File>Export clip>print video....
The help file should lead you in the right direction... -
Interestingly I just set this up on my computer.
I have an ASUS nVidia GeForce FX 5700 card and it has dual VGA capabilities. It has one regular VGA output and also a DVI output (which is square and white). The card also came with an adapter to plug into the DVI port thus converting the card to a dual VGA output. After this was connected I rebooted WinXP and behold there was a wizard that popped open asking how I would like to set up the dual VGA.
For Premiere and After Effects I would use dual VGA as a SPAN display (i.e., two monitors displaying as one monitor with the XP task bar SPANNING across the entire bottom of the displays, half on one screen half on the other).
Only then could I use the extra space in Premiere and AE to display video on one screen and timeline/effects windows on the other screen. It's actually a pleasure to edit Video now, especially in AE where the timeline/layer window can get extremely busy.
If you choose another option for the dual VGA like EXTRA MONITOR, Premiere and AE did not seem to recognize that the EXTRA MONITOR was available and I was unable to move my video output screen to the second monitor.

if you want an external preview monitor, just hook up your cam via firewire and then hook the cam up to a tv

Thanks Scarmaker. I'll give that a go.
Sitlet, I suppose I could use your idea. However, I was talking about previewing the edit, not the capture. -
thats what i was talking about. i do it all the time. just hook your cam to your computer, then the a/v cable from the cam to your tv, and it will work as an edit monitor. you may have to render the clips before it shows up on the monitor though

this could help you a lot

or get vegas and use your firewire connection and view realtime without rendering ...."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
