  1. Hi there,

I have a few questions regardind the conversion of a DVD into SVCD :

    1) Are there any tips when using the clipping filter in DVD2AVI ? For example, should I clip equally to left, right, top, bottom or should I just clip until I don't see any black bars, regardless of the final aspect ratio ?

    2) What's the difference between bicubic and bilinear in VirtualDub resize filter ? I know billinear is better when you don't enlarge and bicubic is optimized when enlarging. What if one proportion is enlarged and the other is getting smaller (i.e. resize from 696x450 to 480x576). Should I use billinear or bicubic ?

    Thx in advance.

  2. dvd2avi clipping filter is too restrictive. you must crop in multiples of 2 and opposing sides must add up to multiples of 8. bicubic resizing is superior to bilinear until reduction approaches upwards of 4x. the rational for choosing bilinear over bicubic for reduction is the benefit of bicubic is only slight while the slowdown is significant

  3. Thx for te answers.

However, I have onequestion unanswered :

In DVD2AVI clipping, should I clip the four sides equally or not ?

  4. if you wanted to clip all sides evenly you'd have to crop 4,4,4,4 or 8,8,8,8 or 12,12,12,12 etc... as to whether this is appropriate or not it depends on what you are trying to do
