  1. I was itching to go back, so I downgraded from 6.3.0.0 back to 5.5.10.54 properly. Kept it for about 2 weeks, giving it a fair shot with my DVD burner..
    1. 90% of every dvd-r i burned had "off color" streaks with 5.
    2. One data dvdr didnt work at the end of the dvd. (cycle data redundancy or some message just as wierd) Wont say what was on it though =X but the files wouldnt come off the dvdr..The other ones did, it was fine just up till that small folder i tried to pull off.
    3. Nero 5 kept telling me my dvd-r's were 2.4x under the "burn dvd" screen, i ran that in simulation mode and it dropped right down to 2x while simulating. Even I know dvd-r's are only 2x, 4x, 8x.

Using: Optorite DD0203 with Comp-Usa DVD-R 2x with firmware 2.23 (if it aint broken dont fix it..No need to upgrade)

So, I gave it a fair chance, i really wish i didnt have to use the bloated 6. Not to mention I do use RecordNow and love it , but for data dvd-rs i dont have the patience to add files using that app.

Did you completely uninstall version 6 before going back to 5?

  3. Oh absolutely! And the uninstaller doesnt exactly get rid of everything. The registry entries were still there under both local settings and current users, the plugins in the "shared" folder, and even the "Nero" folder was still in my program files..But yes, I got rid of everything manually after running the uninstaller, and rebooting.

Sounds like you did everything right, yet the problem remains. I do know this, the "cyclic redundancy" error you received has only happened to me when I was using cheap media. Try burning at 1x if you can. See if you have the same problem with better media.

Streaks on the disc surface or in the video when played back? Streaks in the video would indicate the problem there lies in the creation process, not the transfer process.

Most likely bad media is the culprit here.

For me, Nero always displays 2.4x also. RW media is 2.4x. This is really a non-issue though because I burn at 2x for regular DVD-R and it changes automatically when I start the burn process.

Using: Optorite DD0203 with Comp-Usa DVD-R 2x with firmware 2.23 (if it aint broken dont fix it..No need to upgrade)
I've had terrible luck with the crappy media Comp USA puts their name on too. I bought some that were supposed to be 2x but only burned at 1x and half of them errored out on me. Never again. Avoid it like the plague now.

    You don't have to.

Well there you have it then.

  6. The streaks are on the purple layer on the dvd-r itself. Ive gone back to 6.3.0.0 and i dont see any deep color streaks. *shrug* So now i wont upgrade or switch unless I have need to do so.
Ive been using some compusa dvd-rs for about 30 dvds, so far i havent had too many issues. I only bought them because of the $ situation and the fact that i needed dvdrs but couldnt afford 4x name brand. And I dont like memorex, even i know theyre terrible.
Nero 6 says 2x, not 2.4x, so its properly giving me the right choice.

OH, I really want to get some RITEK dvd-r's (or +, doesnt matter) but i cant find ones that arent silver topped. you know what i mean? They run a risk of flaking off, ive had cdrs do that, its better to have a layer of protection on top then nothing at all. So do you or anyone know where i can find some with Something on top? I dont care what color, or what it looks like, but i can not find anything other then silver topped riteks.
Whats the big deal with ritek anyway? Are they really That Good?
And why arent they sold at retail outlets much?

  7. Not sure, but I think the recording area on a dvd is sandwiched between 2 layers of polycarbonate so it isn't possible for the silver layer to flack off. Also, Ritek is sold a lot at retail, just under someone elses name.
