I started wondering about this after reading a different thread, and I didn't want to hi-jack that thread.
Will my JVC vcr with built in TBC remove macrovision? I've heard it said that a dedicated TBC will remove macrovision. Just wondering. Thanks.

A friend of mine bought a JVC 9000 series VHS VCR years ago (when they were like $600 or $700) and he said it removed macrovision on most but not all tapes.

I know any stand alone TBC that is a "real" TBC i.e., full frame sync etc. will remove macrovision.

Interestingly enough the Canopus ADVC-300 has a built-in TBC and it still detects macrovision.

Does it defeat the macrovision because I have a Sony DVMC-DA2 that *detects* macrovision but doesn't do anything about it (all that happens is that a little red light comes on on the unit; I can still capture just fine).

From what I've read, the ADVC-300 detects and does NOT defeat the MV, unlike the ADVC-100 which does defeat it.

No, that's why I was asking. I have something that removes macrovisin, but it only uses the RCA composit cables, not S-Video. It was one of those questions I just asked because I was stuck at work, and the answer would come quicker then me having to wait to get home and try it out.
