  1. Hi, i have the pioneer A06U, i have some doubts, what is the _firmware_, what is that for. Does it have some relation with the regions. I read on the pioneer manual, that the region can be changed only five times, the last change will be the region forever.

In simple terms the firmware is a small program with instructions for the DVD-RW operations stored within the burner itself.
It is possible to flash-upgrade the firmware and enable yr burner to RPC-1 (region free) but flashing firmware should be done with great caution. If done wrong it could mess up yr drive... PERMANENTLY! So do be careful!! Also flashing with region-free (hacked) firmware voids yr warranty (hence no replacement/repair from Pioneer if yr drive goes bad!!).

A good site to check out is http://pioneerdvd.rpc1.org

    Good Luck

  3. I have a Pioneer 106, and have used the firmware hack on the site posted. My drive is region free and hasn't skipped a beat since I did it (and I have burt plenty of DVD's since as well)

  4. yeh me too..
NIL's and the gangs firwares are very reliable.
and if you f**k it up..its something youve done or not done,so its your fault and not the firmware.
most mistakes now are easily reversed,as you can flash the pioneers back to blank basically, and reflash again
