    Nice stupid question,

I have an option to record DVD's with MPEG AUDIO.

What is it using if I don't select this option?

I am guessing classic DVD uses an old proprietry sound format, and that MPEG AUDIO is something new and not compatible with all old DVD players.

Am I even remotely close in this wild guess????

    Thanks

    No, look Here .

Mpeg audio is part of the mpeg standard. Mpeg video files usually include mpeg audio layer 2 or mp2. It is a requirement that all European DVD players support mp2 audio. Many NTSC players (tho not all) support it too as it is the audio format used in VCD and SVCD.

  3. MPEG audio is not new, in fact at one point it was gonna be the standard for DVD, but then Dolby Digital became the preffered option. Ive never seen a commercial DVD with mpeg audio but it sometimes makes sense to make a DVD with mpeg audio, (ie converting a VCD to a DVD).
