i use an advc-50 so i never have an issue with dropped frames. but i am using another computer with and ATI All in Wonder card in it and capturing with VirtualDub to a brand new hardddrive. For an hour worth of footage is it normal to see some dropped frames? Or is there a way to get no dropped frames? i am getting about 3-10 dropped frames for 30-60minutes worth of data, capturing with huffy codec.
thanks in advance.

That number of dropped frames would be OK, about 50,000 to 100,000 frames total with just 3-10 dropped. Unless they are all together, you probably won't be able to notice. Huffy is pretty CPU/HD intensive.

I found out that vitualdub will drop frames on purpose as a means to keep the audio in sync with the video, with my geforce ti4200 i was getting 20 dropped frames an hour.

ATI cards and VirtualDub do not always work well together. I find using the software that came with the ATI card is generally best. My card came with the MMC and Ulead VideoStudio programs.
I had to stop using VirtualDub for captures because no matter what I did, it would drop frames. Since using MMC/Ulead exclusively, I have never dropped a single frame.
