  1. Anybody have one of these printers yet? I am really considering purchasing this printer as opposed to the R300 because it also uses a glossy cart, which if I am assuming correctly will lay down a nice glossy covering over the ink so smudges might not be an issue.

Anybody tried it yet? I have read that you can take one of the photos it prints and totally submerge it underwater and it will just not bleed or run.

Printable inkjet discs will smudge when any amount of moisture is applied to the disc, this is because the Ink is DYE BASED

Pigment inks will be more water resistant but are generally more exspensive, Epson in Australia uses Dye and also Pigments inks, the pigments inks are available for use only in certain printers.

You can apply very carefully a clear finish spray over the image which will protect it.

  7. As insanemorphius says - it has a glossy cartrige. I don't know if you can submerge a photo and still not have the ink run but I would think the glossy cart would help with the smudging we hear about with other Epson disc printers. I'm counting the days 'til it comes out (3/1)!

Latest report from one of the R800 threads at DPreview is that the ink still smears when a CD/DVD is put under water, even after many hours of drying. What this means is that the disks are not waterproof! Even the best inks stand no chance if the media they are printed on yields to the water. So for disk only printing it would seem that the extra money is not justified. What a huge let down.

That means that the only way to get truly waterproof disk printing you still have to go with the THERMAL type of printers, which for full color/full photo quality, is expensive!
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
