  1. I'm in the UK and i want to get a Divx player but with the market flooded with clones and different chipsets it's hard to know which one to get (or one i can get in the UK) i guess compatability is premium as i know i have many different types of AVI's.
    On my list are
Yamada 6100 ( seems good for support and firmware updates and can get from Amazon quite cheap)
Elta 8883 ( available on Ebay QPEL support etc)
NeuNeo ( available on Ebay also QPEL support etc )
    Liteon 2002 ??

If anyone can help me choose i would be most grateful.
    Cheers
    J

  2. beermaster, i've heard good things about yamada 6000/6100, it has also been on the market for a while. It is also one of the few players with a sigma chip which actually (at least it claims to) ff and rw on divx movies. I own Liteon LVD 2001 which does not ff or rw on divx.

There are basically 3 families of chips:
    ESS VIBRATO
    SIGMA 8500
    MTK

MTK is the newest (i.e., ELTA 8883) solution. ESS is the oldest. I've only had experience with SIGMA based player so I cannot comment on ESS or MTK.

Actually the LiteOn does ff and rw, on the remote hit the "search" button and punch in the exact time you want to go to in the film.
The ff and rw only does steps of 10 seconds (I think).

  4. liteon does 1 min at a time and then if you do it more than 2 or 3 times in a row, it freezes (mine is). It is very fragile, that ff operation. It does a better job if you push earch: and then the time where you want to go.

I have the yamada 6100 and upgrading the firmware does indeed allow for fast forwarding/rewinding in divx/xvid movies.

I haven't tried it often but never had a problem with it.

It probably isn't 100% as there is no standards set for it.
