  1. Im running a DVD and a DVDR I made side by side and I notice the DVDR is alot darker. Is this is due to the loss in quality from the compression? Will using 2 DVD make an exact copy that you cant tell the difference from an original DVD?

    Hey,

Well.. I back up all of my own dvds, just in case... Most recently S.W.A.T! damn that movie rocks. but anyways... I made a copy of the dvd, stripping off all the menus, and extras, and the dvd looks EXACTLY like the orginal.. I can play them side by side on 2 different tvs, and I cannot tell which one is the copy and which one is the orginal.

i guess its all in the programs...
I use DVDShrink to rip JUST the dvd movie, then i burn it at 2.4x with nero to Memorex DVD+R disks. Works perfectly.. and only takes about 1 hour per DVD!

  3. So you made an exact copy of it using DVD Shrink in 1 DVDR? I used 1 DVDR to copy Gladiator with DVD Shrink and you can easily tell the copy because its alot dimmer. All i did also was copy the movie and no extras.

  5. It must have been the media because i redid it on DVD-R and it looks BETTER than the original! The dim one was on DVD+RW. Whats the compression on Shrink that is usually there or you dont worry about it? I just ripped Godfather with Shrink and it says 57% compression. Some people say they wont go under 60.

  6. There is a big difference between being the same quality, and appearing to be the same quality. If you use any compression there has been quality loss; there is absolutely no way you can reduce the file sizes and not lose quality...just not possible. Now, it is possible for it to be compressed well and have the quality loss very difficult to notice but there has been quality loss...and under no circumstances could you gain quality. Keep in mind your TV size plays a huge roll in what is noticeable.
