  1. After waiting for nearly four months, I have finally got the OEM model Pioneer DVR 106. In fact I had planned to get it from USA where they sell for US$120 whereas in our country it is US$360, and my friend in USA got it for me during his visit to India recently.
I have never used an OEM drive earlier. I have Nero 6 and have also downloaded the two firmwares available in Pioneer Website. Can any one advice me how to install and start working with it ?

  2. As long as you have a dvd program like windvd or powerdvd all you need to do is install the drive. xp will find the drive and install it for you. OEM just doesn't have the programs included like the retail that's about the major difference that i know of. Just as easy to install to me.

  3. Yes, I do have PowerDVD software for playing DVDs in addition to Nero burn 6. Is it necessary to install the firmwares ?

  4. I wouldn't install the firmware unless you have problems with the drive. Just install it and give it a try. I have a the 106 and haven't upgraded the firmware yet. Works like a champ for me.

  5. Ok, I shall give it a try without using the firmware. I shall let you know the results after I try it out. Thanks.
