  5. What is the point in writing viruses? What is the author of Mydoom proving? What can he/she gain?

I'm sure if this person were found out, I could guess what they'd gain.....

  9. Are you saying that the antivirus people might encourage this behaviour? Imagine if it was proven that one of the big companies were up to this. My money's on Norton - they always seem to be on top of things....

IMO it's a power trip. Imagine what it must feel like to be able to control a corporation's assets or activating thousands of bots to target a single site. Then observe that site taken out of action for a time.

Maybe, but with Microsoft offering a $250,000US bounty on the writer's head, the writer better have very good friends (who won't sell him out for cash), or he'd better work alone in a very dark closet!

Hell, that doesn't sound so insane.
You guys in the US send and recieve a ridiculous amount of mobile/cellphone text messages?
Are you up to speed technology wise over there?
We send and recieve shitloads over here, and the jokey ones, the ones that get sent around and around and around are, in my opinion, created by the telecommunication companies, the networks providing the service.
And at ten pence each ($.018 flasystus ) why wouldn't they?
Good business sense, they have an army of fifteen year olds to make them a shitload of money!

  14. I think that most people in the computer industry believe that computer viruses are created by people with connections to virus protection programmes. It makes sense. No viruses = No need for Norton / Macafee / AVG / etc.

No, it wasn't like that. It was some hyperlink with text like, "Great Cars and Trucks click here" but it was a group. Apparently not since the viruses infected my system instantly...but they were weak and I conquered them!

Was it a link *to* a Yahoo website or a link *from* a Yahoo website. If it's a link *from* a Yahoo website, particularly a groups website, it's not Yahoo, it's whoever is running that group who is putting up nasty links, *not* Yahoo.

Me and my friends have thought that for years. They have a load of people just sitting in a room thinking those up.
